James Oglethorpe founded the colony of Georgia. He noticed all the poor, or in dept, in England where just thrown in jail. Oglethorpe and his friend decided to make a colony in GA to give the poor a new start. His friends designed the layout of Savannah, while Oglethorpe started and took charge of it. Oglethorpe did this alone because his friend, the designer, was thrown in jail because of his dept, and later died there because of the unsanitary condition. Oglethorpe ruled the colony until he thought Georgia was hopeless and unprofitable, then moved back to, and stayed in England.
